COMMENT:
As we are the driest region in the whole of the UK with rainfall well below the national average,
all participants will be required to bring their own!
- Environment Agency supply and demand projections suggest a water deficit will be reached by 2017.
- The woods of the region are rich in rare plant species and they support a notable range of breeding birds,
dormice, an isoltaed population of red squirrels and 10 species of bat. Veteran trees are particularly important
for roosting bats, as well as lichens, deadwood invertebrates and breeding birds.
- Unimproved neutral grasslands are now scarce in the region, but the remaining examples include some
species rich hay meadows of major importance.
- Lowland heathland is an internationally scarce resource and occurs most extensively in Breckland.
- Region likely to experience high increases in temperatures, lower summer rainfall, more frequent
winter precipitation.
