A Campaign to Resist the Orion Land and Leisure 'Watermark'
Development on Kentford Heath
Four years ago Forest Heath district Council placed an advert asking for developers to think about
building plans
for the area. Since then, Orion Land & Leisure have been developing plans for a huge housing and sports park, called
Watermark. Only now do we know what these plans are!
The proposal is based on a 1,500 metre (1 Mile) long rowing strip, 5,000 houses, a hotel, two schools, an
indoor arena and business park. The development would be paid for by the sale of the houses, some
4 and 5 storeys high, into which would move over 12,000 people. The business park on its own would attract
a huge increase in heavy goods and business traffic, add the local average of 2.5 cars per household and we
get a nightmare scenario for our local, rural roads of over 20,000 extra traffic movements a day. The development
also includes an indoor arena to be used for rock concerts and exhibitions seating up to 6,000 people.
The proposed site is in the parishes of Herringswell and Kentford, bordering on Kennett and Red Lodge.
The 5 Villages Preservation Trust is an independent group dedicated to campaigning against this
development. We know that it is not wanted or needed in this area and would cause huge damage if it was to
go ahead.
There are several ways to support the Trust:
